Default Question - Disconnect Battery Needed?

When I replace my stock stereo head unit only, do I really need to disconnect the battery first?

Electronics is sensitive and there is more and more electronics on those bikes. If you're going to play in it, yes unplug the battery.

I can say that I do lots of stuff with it connected. But maybe better safe than sorry?
