Looking to put a sound system in a FLHT. Just two speakers in the fairing avd an aftermarket head unit set up. Starting with nothing. What would you guys recommend? Let's do two different budgets, say under $500 on one and up to $850 on the other. Thanks in advance for the input.
Yup, Biketronics. If I had it to do again on a budget, I'd go back to them. Best speakers I've had until I did these JL Audios that I have now. I think you'll be happier if you do some kind of amp too.
Sony MEX Radio - 150ish
Metra Kit and ASWC-80.00
Biketronics 7P1 speakers - 250
Cerwin Vega B2 - 136
Polyfil - 10.00
Boss Amp wiring kit - 10.00
About 650.00 and you're set. Cheaper than that get the Infinity Kappa 62.11 speakers, you'll need adaptor rings. More expensive get the BT 2180 amp and Kenwood 998.
Would someone fill me in on what Polyfill is? I am no sound expert for sure.
It is, (I believe) polyester fibers woven together. You can find it at any local fabric store as well as most walmart's. You use it to wrap the back of your speakers.
I have made a few purchases this week. I went with Biketronics 7.1 for the speakers. I am going tomorrow to pick out a head unit. I have a schoche install kit and handlebar control module that will be here by Tuesday. I should have something in the bike by the end of the week. I am going to try it without an amp first, as I really don't ride this thing that much, to see if I like the setup. I can always jump back in there and add the amp if I want more.

Don't believe you'll be satisfied at all without an amp. Those 7.1s need an amp to really shine.
