Why? Obviously I am aware that an amp would be the ideal route but is it necessary? Forgive my ignorance as I know zip about audio.

Well, I decided to skip the install of just the speakers. BT2180 is ordered and on the way.................

Good call! The best way I can describe having those speakers without an amp is you would have Ferrari speakers and pushing them with a lawnmower motor!

I really don't ride that much and I was pretty pleased with my last bike which was an FLHX with stock HU and boom speakers. My thinking was that this without the amp should be fine but the guy a biketronics made me a deal I couldn't say no to...............
