What steps would you take to diagnose a volume control problem? I'm using the Biketronics Retro Radio hand control kit, and a newly installed Sony MEX head unit. When I turn the volume up with the hand controls volume goes down, not up. Turning it down with the hand controls works as it should. I can turn it up via the radio ****, but volume gradually drops with changes in speed (regardless of braking or accelerating) so I'm constantly having to turn the **** up. I have a hazy recollection of maybe pushing the hand control volume button inward to seat the thumb button on the switch a couple of days ago, but everything worked while in the garage two days ago. Went on a ride yesterday and the hand controls failed. I'm not sure if it's the hand control volume switch or the Biketronics module. Has anyone replaced their volume switch?
I was having trouble with mine and this is what Bill sent me. It will turn off the AVC then you can see if your controls start working or not.
Try turning off the auto volume control, with the radio on (but not the bike) push in the left handlebar audio control button for 12 seconds, then let go and don't touch anything for a min. Nothing should change on the radio if this works correctly.
Well, after trying your suggestion with no luck, I made another discovery. Let me preface this with the disclosure that I changed radios last week, but the hand control module, amp, speakers remain the same. The only other change was the wiring harness between the head unit and the Biketronics hand control module, which I got from Biketronics and is specific to Sony radios. Prior to the swap, the right hand control would shuffle songs on my iPhone if the button was slid up or down, and change the source if I pushed it straight in. Now when I slide it up the song playing repeats immediately, and when I slide it down the volume increases. The left control still only turns volume down regardless if I push it up or down. I sent Biketronics an email and am waiting on a response.

Did you set the BT100x to the correct radio manufacturer if the prior radio mfg was different?
That particular module doesn't have that selector. Bill sent me a new updated module, problem solved. He explained the voltages the new MEX are different that my previous DSX. This one has that selector, arrived with it preset.
Ive got an 07 Electra glide ultra classic with two different volume control problems that one or the other end up occurring either my volume down control doesnt register or after I set my volume my volume turns all the way down to mute on its own Ive already installed a new volume control switch from Harley Davidson after doing so my volume down wasnt registering I havent had the chance to run the radio for an extended period of time to see if it resorts back to lowering volume on its own any advice would be appreciated thank you.
