Default general speaker question

I've looked through several threads and some Google research but I'm curious as to what the general conesus is on speakers.
Basically will any 6.5 speaker work on a 15 Ultra or are there specific speakers to use or stay away from?
Like others most of my audio knowledge is stuck in the 80's. In the forums though it seems like I see the same brands being used.
Why not say Blaupunkt, Clarion or Kenwood speakers?

Any 6.5 speaker will work but keep in mind it's a motorcycle and the speakers need to be durable enough to withstand the elements.

Right. I'm guessing polypropylene with rubber seal is the way to go to hold up to rain.
I'm interested in evening out my sound a little as it seems load enough but the stock speakers can get a little tinny at mid to higher volume

Exactly. There is a reason why you are only seeing "certain" speakers recommended here on the forum. Most have been vetted by the guys who live and breath audio on a bike every single day. We know what works and what does not. Bike audio is very tricky and all the components have to match to get good sound in the wind. You can set up a system in the garage that sounds great. Take it on the road at 70mph and it will sound like crap. Hence is the reason the circle of components is very small.

First thing you need to do is can the stock speakers and go with 6.5's in the fairing. Infinity 62.11i on a budget. Biketronics 7.1's if you want to upgrade.

Secondly you will NEED an amp to push those speakers. The Rockford PBR300X2 is a good match for the infinity's. The Cerwin Vega B2 is a good match for the 7.1's.

It gets more complicated but the components I mentioned is a good place to start.
If you need help the guys on this forum are great and will help you at every turn.

So I'll probably have to spread this out a little over time by doing speakers and amp separately.

Do you recommend 62.11 for front and rear? Would they be ok off just the head unit for a time until I add an amp?

Kappa's for the fairing for sure. I'm not sure if they will fit in the pods on the 15's. Have not done an install on a 15 yet. If at all possible you want to get the amp and the speakers at the same time. You won't notice much of a difference by simply adding speakers.

Kappa's will fit in the front pods. I have them in my 14 Limited.

Ahhh, ok no they won't fit in the rear. At least not with the stock grills.

These for the rear.
Amazon.com : Kicker 40CS674 6-3/4" CS-Series Coaxial Speakers - Pair (Black) : Vehicle Speakers : Car Electronics Amazon.com : Kicker 40CS674 6-3/4" CS-Series Coaxial Speakers - Pair (Black) : Vehicle Speakers : Car Electronics

I just installed these on my 15 Limited based on a recommendation from this forum. They are plug and play and drop right in to the Limited's rear pods.

I'm also going with the Infinity Kappa 62.11i's in the front fairing. Also two RF PBR300x2 amps.
