Default Loose RCA's

'09 FLHT, biketronics kit, Sony digital media player, Soundstream Picasso pn4.520d amp mounted above the head unit.

I thought I had a blown speaker sometime back and it ended up being a intermittent/loose RCA on the amp connection and the speaker ohm'd out as being good. Squeezed/stretched the terminals out and RTV'd the mess together to prevent them from loosening again...

Today, same issue with a crackling/weak sounding speaker.. Anyone else run into a similar issue? The RCA plugs are pretty small due to the space but some tight fitting 90 terminals could be worth upgrading too. I think the current wires are Rockford Fosgate twisted pair, I suppose they are a step above radio shack offerings? Another solution could be to use the speaker levels inputs and do away with the RCA issues, but think the RCA pre-outs should sound better?

I've set that exact same system up a few times. There should be plenty of room with the 520.D for the RCA's. Should not need 90 degree terminals on the amp. The RCA's are the way you want to go.

These are excellent:

I've always gotten into the habit of putting a dab of silicone on the OUTSIDE of the RCA male plug AFTER its plugged into the female. Just need a little on the male/female connection and it won't back off.

Very true! I guess I'm saying they should not be loose 90 degrees or otherwise.

I would like to find a shorter pair of RCA's with a 90* on one end. Just because I have about a foot of cable coiled up and zip-tied to keep from bouncing , When stubby 4"ers would be perfect. If anyone has or seen such a thing or can they be fabricated with a kit would be great.

On the ARC amp I had, the solder connections on the inside of the amp would crack, then the connections to the inside plug itself finally wouldn't hold the RCA plug tight.
