Default Removing CB/Intercom harness

Changing out the HK head unit on 2011 FLHTK so obviously removing the cb/intercom. Am thinking about completely removing the cb/intercom wiring harness. Is the dash panel "speaker" switch part of this harness or is it part of the "main" radio harness? Thanks for your help.

The speaker toggle switch is part of the dash switch harness. You could remove it, yes. Not sure of the p/n for a blank cover to fill the hole, but you could get a second accessories switch and use it to switch something else you wired into it (in my case, a relay that lets me control power to my second amp when the tour pak and its speakers are not on the bike).

Thanks for your reply but I am still a bit puzzled. What I am trying to find out (before I start pulling stuff apart) is if this switch is part of the cb/intercom harness (the 35 pin plug I believe) that plugs into the back of the HK head unit. So, when I remove the cb/intercom harness running from the HK head unit to the back of the bike will I need to remove (or just disconnect) this switch? Or, does it just remain in place but no longer do anything? Is the dash switch harness you refer to a completely separate harness from the cb/intercom harness that plugs into the back of the radio ? Sorry if I am making this more complicated than it needs to be. I just want to have a pretty good idea of what I am doing before I start trying to remove the cb/intercom wiring. Thanks again for your reply.

The speaker switch wiring does not make it back to the 35-pin connector. It goes through the dash panel switches' connector under the faring, and into the 23-pin connector for the radio.

Thank you for that info. That is what I was looking for. Once the CB and intercom are gone I guess this switch will be "dead" unless I replace it with another accessory switch like you mentioned. Thanks again for your help.

I just finished this up yesterday, just that too! I hated looking down and that block of ***** for no reason in front of me.

It wasn't that easy but I'm beat (long work day) and pizzas about here. Let me think about how I will write up what I did. I did do it without cutting anything but the two wires going to the rear speakers for the end plugs. They go through that system so them wires will need to come from the head unit to the back. I'll post a couple pics soon. In a hurry as much as I was?

Hint! Do it on an empty tank.

I got the head unit for 129 bucks new at a local stereo shop.

Kenwood KMR-M312BT A marine grade head unit with no CD player. Bluetooth ready for no wires with the right Ipod or phone and both plugs holes in front too if need be.

Got a head unit yet? Where the hell's that pizza guy?
