Default Polyfil consensus on the Rushmore bat wing pods

Ok, just waiting on the pac sni-35 and the moto 602's. I've read a couple conflicting things on putting polyfill in the bat wing speaker pods. I'm going to be pushing the 602's with the Cerwin Vega B2, will i need to put a hand full of polyfil into the pod?

Thank you, you guys have been very helpful.

Based on BT's recommendation, I would drill a 3 inch hole in the back of the pod and fill it loosely with Polyfill. The Arc Moto speakers can handle ALOT of bass, they will surely make those pods flex and distort your low end.

As for the amp HPF at 80 HPF might be too high for those speakers. They can take a pounding. Once you set your gains with the DMM, you can adjust the HPF to where it sound right for you. That set up is going to sound great.

I found the thread where Bill (biketronics) talked about it and the pictures of the guy that did the holes. Just waiting for the pac sni-35 to show up now, I'm getting a little impatient lol. Almost ran an hour away to see if best buy had one haha.

I might start out with a 1" hole and work my way up. Easy enough to make the hole bigger.

I'll say this man. I trust BT has done more R&D on this than me. So for sure drill the hole and see what size works best for u, but I'll bet 3in is going to be right. Especially with those speakers that crank out some serious bass. I'm looking forward to hearing your review.

So what I've found out with doing my own upgrade has more to do with if the speaker needs to breathe or be sealed. I had the same desire to improve the sound and the bass drove me nuts. Most of the higher end speakers will likely need to be sealed to perform best. If you do still have a mushy response you might want to try putting a little dynamat on the back of the pod before cutting holes. Those pods actually provide inner fairing support. If you've already had the pods apart you can remove the 6 bolts at the bottom and fire the bike up give it a throttle and see how much more your whole fairing vibrates.

A single 3"hole probaby won't affect the stability too much. But it's one thing less to worry about if you are the type to keep take offs to put back on for trade in time.

With drilling the hole you're basically porting the pod. Most enclosures you find with a portage also tuned with the diameter of the port and a length of tube to get the best sound. There's no room to tune the pod. Which may be why BT says 3" to just to do away with the pod volume and use all of the remaining volume in the fairing.

Polyfil is a cheap experiment. Dynamat isn't horrible to add in. Going back from dynamat and poly fil is no big deal. Drilling holes that don't give you what you want means buying new pods that probably cost more then they should.
