The time has come that i would like to change out my factory RG speakers and i have read all the speaker posts on here and there are a TON! Anyway i have a baby on the way and cant afford the ARC system which i would love so i guess i will settle to change out the factory speakers and my dilema is between the J&m and Hog tunes. So i decided to enlist the help of eveyone here by way of a poll!
Best sound for the money is Hogtunes. Don't get the amp, just the front speakers if the money is an issue and it will improve the sound a great deal. That's what I'm running in my SG and I'm happy the way it is. Do a search and find the Hogtunes HD Forums discount page to save you a little coin.
I just put J&Ms in and they sound great, couldnt fairly compare to hogtunes though since I have not heard them in person. The J&M are about 20 bucks more, hogtunes on ebay for 90 bucks, J&Ms are 109 retail. I got them because I got a deal, but am very happy with them.
Last weekend I installed a set of the J&M with the tweeter and mid in the grill in my FLHX.Very easy install and a perfect fit all the way around.
I have the bike inside for the winter so I listened to 3 of my favorite cd's with a good
range of highs and lows on the songs before and after the install.
They do sound somewhat better but not $110.00 better and i thnk they are a little
muddy or not clean. I can play at a higher volume with less distortion but it lacks
bass reponse big time. Normally I get more bass out of that size speaker although
I know it is not a sub woofer and I did not add and acoustic material to the batwing. I actually think a had more bass on the stock ones but better mid range for certain on the J&M.
I was ordering the Hog Tunes but my dealer insisted that I would be happier with the
J&M.But I have not tried them with the motor running on the road which may make more of a difference.
I will admit I am fussy on my speakers and have invested alot of $ on my car and home systems. So maybe I need to give the FireCap a call and add an AMP. I am also considering adding the vented lowers and putting two more speakers down there as well.
