Had to replace 2 Kappas, what does this look like to you?
Just got done replacing both Kappas in my '15 Limited Low. They have been buzzing for a while now. Does this look like just normal speaker blowing, or is something else going on here...
Both speakers look the same. I've been running a PBR300 @ about 6 on the gain, seems reasonable. It does get hot here.... the speakers have seen 105+, but that's well below what they might see in a hot car with the windows up in the summer. Also, they have been wet a couple of times from careless hose spraying at wash time.
Just wondering if this is what I have to look forward to? They've only been installed for 4 months now, not too promising.
Those speakers are normally pretty durable. I've not seen any in the condition of your pics. Gain on the PBR is a little high. The weather should not be a factor. The infinity's like clean power and I'm not so sure the PBR is the right amp for the Infinity's. Now guys might disagree but those speakers sound much better with the Cerwin Vega B2 IMO. Not saying it's the amp but if you are running the gains at 6 and high volume you're probably getting distortion with the PBR. and as we all know distortion kills speakers. Turn the gain down a hair. Bout 5 is where the PBR sounds best.
Thanks for the info. I did turn the gain down to 5.5, next time I have things apart I'll turn it a bit lower. In the mean time I'll just watch my volume.
Hopefully Infinity will replace them under warranty, I bought them from Crutchfield & still have the receipt.
BTW... I highly recommend Stevie Wonder's Living For The City for checking your bass lol.

Reason: To prove I can actually spell bass
I am running same set up(PBR 300&62.11s) on 15SGS. With my gain set at 5-6, I don't have any more sound than stock. I currently have it set at about 7.5-8 and about 80hz on HP setting.
It sounds pretty good set here with no noticeable distortion. Still pretty new to me but don't want future problems. My only option for set up is by ear. During tuning, are we supposed to have speed control set to off or???

AVC should be turned off AND bike should be running as well.

Could this be from enclosed pods? I am running my gain at 7-8 to hear any improvement over stock.

7-8 is way too high on that amp. I'd say you are definitely getting distortion. With that setting you would be getting distortion WITH or WITHOUT the pods. So no I don't think it's the pods. I'm not sure what signal the new HU from Harley is producing 2V or 4V. But it sounds like you have a very weak signal coming from the HU. The PBR doesn't play well with a weak signal.
That's one reason why you have to set your gains so high to get any significant volume. On another note you may or may not have the right flash. Every set up is different on these new bikes.
I sent off an email to Infinity about replacing my Kappas under warranty. They responded, asked for a copy of my receipt, etc. I sent that off & got another reply.... they said they had no more Kappas in inventory & no idea when that might change, did I want to be put in the queue?

Wonder if they're getting discontinued.
Hmmm that's interesting! Quality problems and no more in stock. Got to be more than a coincidence. Only one way to find out. Ask em. If they are out of stock. What are they going to do to make it right? Is there a new replacement speaker? I'd certainly ask what the plan is to make you a happy camper?
