hey guy's ... 08 Ultra classic, stock everything. I really miss my usb with my head unit as all my music is on usb flash drive. I eventually want to upgrade the whole audio package but for now, what would you recommend for a good head unit that still retains the bar controls? I don't have a use for the HK C.B. So that isn't a problem. Thanks for any advice
U will have to add the axxess kit or something of the like to retain hand controls on an aftermarket HU HU.. I have links to all of the stuff you'll need if your interested

also - look at this stickey thread for easier programming instructions on the ASWC-1 and metra kit. total for kit should not be more than 70-75 if you look around on fleabay and the brasilian forrest.
Ultraclassic, two good head units that are usually recommended are the Kenwood 998, (which I have and also haze and AAWAV) and The Alpine 149T(which UltraNutz runs) . A lot of guys also run Sony HU's (Gannicus runs the 310 I think). Look on Biketronics website they have HU's that they sell on their website. All of these have USB capabilities.

Totally agree!! Can't go wrong with any of the above!! I've also ran the Sony Mex M70BT marine unit. It's a very nice unit as well!
"any" decent HU will work.
preferably - If you are picky like me, Gann, Haze :-):
- 4V pre-outs
- extended EQ options (5 band or more).
I ran a pioneer DEH-9500 before the kenwood and it had options the kenwood does not have.
it depends on what your main audio source is.
Me, I use 95% of the time my usb drive. the kenwood, for some wacky reason, does not have a lot of options to play f.e. by genre. you can "fix" this by re-arranging your music on the drive but to me - being an engineer from origin - it is just a plain MISS by vendors not providing these simple functions via the "baked in" software.
fyi, if you got ipod or newer apple device, the kenwood supports the search/playlist, etc... I am just not one of those apple "fans"... check compatibility with your apple device before buying, as "most" might have issues with the newer models
i installed a pioneer deh-x9600bhs and i love it. dual usb ports (one for the stick, one for the phone), bt, adjustable screen color (i use green and it matches up with the buttons on my ultra) and if you set the screen to show the time/date as default you can actually read it in the sunlight.
