i too considered a media headunit but couldn't find one with all the features i wanted so instead i went with a pioneer deh-9600bhs. all the normal bells and whistles and 2 usb ports - one for my 64g stick and one for my phone.
I think what he's referring to nineball is that specific amp:
PBR300X2
300 Watt 2-Channel Amplifier
The PBR300X2 is a 300 Watt amplifier with Boosted Rail Technology, allowing it to be compact and efficient while providing big power. This amp is great for smaller stealth installations, motorcycles and recreational vehicles.
12dB/octave Butterworth crossover

that's what i read - that you need a minimum 4v input for the amp, which isn't true.

as you know the 4v refers to the rca outs from a hu, and that is not "required" for the pbr amp. it will function just fine using a 2v or 3v input from a set of rca cables.
from what you bolded it would appear (and i am just guessing here) that no remote turn on wire is needed if the hi inputs are used, which also won't be a concern with an aftermarket headunit as they all have one.
Up intil the other day I was running the stock HK unit with the Soundstream PN4.520d amplifier and Polk Audio MM651 speakers. It sounded good and could be heard at 80 MPH on the highway no problem. I was looking for an upgrade so I could stream Bluetooth to the head unit via phone without having a seperate module plugged into face of unit.
Took a look at the Alpine UTE-BTB2 Digital media receiver that does not play CD's and pulled the trigger. Added the Sirius module and installed.
This thing is great, need to pull fairing again and readjust gains, did it be ear first time but think i will try the DMM route this time. Sounds great with Sirius, Bluetooth, and memory stick. changing head unit also brought back my AM/FM reception which was pretty much gone when I installed the SS AMP.
