Has anyone played with using a capacitor to help the weak charging system?
I've always read mixed reviews on these things? I know I looked up on upgrading the charging system and with what's available the math just wasn't enough of an increase in wattage to justify.
I think the way most HU work, internally at least, is, the RCA's are coming off the preamp of the HU, bypassing the HU's internal amp thus going directly to the external amp which usaully has better SQ and less distortion. Thats why I was saying I used to look for CD recievers that had no internal amp and actually looked for one for my bike, but the only one I could find was a Alpine that listed for $1100. Thats why Haze said he got better SQ in his garage with the internal amp switched off. You could not run HL on the 998 with the internal amp switched off (I don't think). also you thoughts on getting HL from the rca's is confusing as well. Good stuff!!
x998 - amp turned off means no signal to HU speaker outputs Mike

Welcome back AAWAV. So how I understand it is, when you are using RCA outs to amp you can shut off the internal amp because you are only using the preamp on the 998 directly to your external amp. The only way you would need the internal amp is if you were running a separate set of speakers, say a hog tune tweeter pod off your HU. So if you turn off the internal amp you can't get the HL output we are discussing here or am I missing something? HL out put comes from reamplifying the internal preamp and amp in the HU and if you shut off the internal amp thusly no HL out put...right?

- by shutting down the internal END Amp, it reduces possible "interference/etc" in the HU, hence Pioneer, Kenwood, xxx HIGH end HU's have the option to shut down the end amp. besides the (way) reduced power usage by HU and potential heat
pre-amp still works of course (for RCA outputs).

Yeah, I understand why you shut off the internal amp when you use RCA's (to eliminate unwanted noise) my point was once you shut off the internal amp there goes your HL out put..right? Or am I missing something?

correct - HL output is your END amp signal. hope that clarifies it LOL
