Mark, did you just use the HL from the hu? Sounds like you hit the sweet spot on that setup.
Yes, I cut the RCA ends off the input harness to the amp and soldered HL wire on to it, then soldered the HL wire to the speaker outputs coming from the HU.
Was your HL gain setting in HP or AP mode? Did you notice a difference in volume and gain settings for the onset of clipping between the two modes? I ask this because I'm currently using a T400x2AD in AP mode with HL inputs from the stock Harley HK head unit. The sound appears to be fuller in this mode rather than HP (with better bass), but I'm wondering if I might be sacrificing the high end some with this mode rather than HP?
Unless I am running subs I run HP on everything. Although, as Haze said, it won't matter b/c the test tone is a 1khz and will go through either way. It would only be knocked out on LP.
If your bass is coming in fuller on AP than on HP, I'd ask what you what hz you have the HP filter set on and what speakers are you running to determine where you should set them.

+1
Depending on the speaker set up, I don't have a single speaker on my bike on AP.
Haze - did you poke around with the X998 internal AMP OFF? you know it will improve SQ (over RCA of course).
Overall - very interesting findings (my engineering head is now wondering why; I got a "feeling" it has to do with dynamics... hard to explain what I mean)

so, in theory, every hu, amp, speaker, and speaker "compartment or location"combination will sound different with HL and LL applications? you guys make my head spin🤓
gets me to thinkin... if it sounds good to my ears at 80mph and doesnt break my bank......love readin all the tech articles. i havent done any audio mods since high school. thats right... when you turned the radio **** and the little needle moved across the number line. hows that for tech? i did get a slight insight on EMI reduction from a friend of mine. will soon be installing a couple different class d amps in 2 diff bikes with 2 diff head units. if i get good results i will post
I know when i had the hertz milles hooked to a ss pn4.1000 i liked the sound better with the rca's. But with the dd b2's hooked up, i run them with hi-level.

Yes, there are a lot of factors to take into account when putting a system together. That's with the folks here will help you with.
As it appears you are new to all this so don't be to concerned with high level and low level connections. As long as the amp you choose has low level connection use them.

it appears there are low level outputs on hu for rears, but not the fronts. aquatic hu. ss pn4 1000d amp

Does the Aquatic have RCA's on the back for front and rear speakers? If so those are your low level outputs that will connect directly to the RCA inputs on the amp.

rca for rears only do i use rca for rear and high level for front? mix n match? does it matter at 80 mph?
