That's definitely an advantage for when you decide to spray a stream of water directly on your head unit...which even in pouring rain is not a realistic scenario. If you must spray a stream of water directly on the head unit, BT makes a splash cover to help LOL
I've installed marine units on friends bikes that ride almost year round, even in rain...no issues. Just cannot see spending so much on these when you can get a much better head unit and trimmings.
Maybe the higher end unit is just insanely better than the lower end unit?

I agree on each point. I went with the Kenwood 998 and the BT splash cover.
I am planning on a full audio makeover and I hit a snag on HU selection. I am looking at the aquatic units because they fill all three of my major requirements: waterproof, Bluetooth, HD controls. I see that two models are available and there is quite a price difference. I could care less about the screen difference, but there is also an output difference. Seeing as I am going to run an external amp does it really matter?
the lower priced unit is not plug and play, the more expensive one is
During Reno Street Vibrations I bought the lower end unit. I did not realize that the lower. Unit only has one set of rca marked rear and not a front and rear set. My amp at that time was wired to the original HK Head unit. I thinking I should have saved a ltiile longer for the higher unit. Love the Bluetooth and I have a iPod plugged into the audio plug stored in the Aquatic storage area.
Fwiw, I have the higher end Aquatic with Sirius XM, Soundstream amp, and Kappas. Dollar for dollar one of the best upgrades I’ve done to the bike. Originally thought I was going to add speakers to the lower fairings, but no need, this thing will make your ears bleed at 50% volume.
