I installed one of these for a guy over the weekend. Grounded at battery and had no issues with it cutting out. The amp did seem to get extremely hot though. I contributed it to the crappy J&M speakers he was using LOL!!!!
Tell me it isn't so! Someone is finally admitting that the RBR in fact does run extremely hot.
This amp is way too hot to be in a fairing...period. But, one person a ways back said it doesn't run hot and all the sheep followed.
You simply don't know what you are doing sunshine.
I got your sunshine swinging, clown. You're just another one of the herd of sheep that listened to one self-proclaimed expert on a forum. That's typical of forums though.
This amp runs way too hot...period. Folks blame grounds, speakers, wire size, etc. None of that makes a difference with the heat this amp puts out.
So keep on bringing that BS about this amp NOT running hot and I will keep waving the BS flag.
bring that ground back to the battery. I am pretty sure they have a bulletin on the rockford website saying so.
That bulletin doesn't in any way shape or form address the heat issues, or the amp shutting down. What is DOES address is a sound connection to a ground point.
Period ?? I never knew with your stupid posts you were an audio authority.
Weren't you the same jackass that was asking for technical information. Explain to me with you all your idiot wisdom, why or how exactly an amplifier get's hot? I can. Hell, I can even tell you how to fix it but would rather know your bike sounds like ****.

Hey genius, since you know so much why don't you start contributing on this forum. Here, this guy needs some assistance, why don't you share some of that audio wisdom.

I'm thinking even RF knows this amp runs hot. Read mounting locations in the manual.
"Mounting the amplifier in the passenger compartment will work as long as you provide a sufficient amount of air for the amplifier to cool itself. If you are going to mount the amplifier under the seat of the vehicle, you must have at least 1" (2.54cm) of air gap around the amplifier's heatsink. Mounting the amplifier with less than 1" (2.54cm) of air gap around the amplifier's heatsink in the passenger compartment will not provide proper cooling and will severely affect the performance of the amplifier and is strongly not recommended."
Come on now. Does anyone really think that sticking this amp in a fairing is the right thing to do.....based on what RF says above. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that a batwing fairing doesn't have a dog in this hunt. There's more room under the seat and more room in a passenger compartment of even the smallest car.
Now. lets strap this amp on top of a head unit, with little to no airflow on the bottom of the amp, and enclose it with almost zero airflow to cool it, and tuck it in a tiny area such as a batwing.
I love the amp, don't get me wrong. But, it runs way too hot. Anyone that says it doesn't run hot is clueless.

The amp runs too hot to be stuck in a fairing. What else do you need to know. Try reading the lit from the manufacturer. It's written at an 8th grade level.
Every time someone brings up the heat issue with this amp we hear the same thing....it doesn't run hot. Why does this amp have cutting out issues and heat issues posted all over the Internet, as compared to complaints about other amps? Maybe because it DOES run hot!
But people bought it for it's size, which is great. And you know how people are. 99% will never admit they bought something that just plain isn't what they really can appreciate.
Or, the "I dont want to sacrifice bag space" theory to justify things. All rubbish. It's a hot running amp.
The good thing is you can always fry up a dozen eggs and some hash browns on it during a road trip. Yep, it will help it cool down after it cuts out tor the umteenth time.
