So I'm getting close to starting my install on my 15 SGS. What are most people doing with the pods in the faring, I'm installing Hertz 6.5 should I keep the pods or remove them and use rings or something?

What amp are you going to be using?
You have two choices. Mount the speakers inside the stock pods as shown in the video below. Some cut holes in the back of the pods to let the speakers breath better and add some polyfill to help with sound quality.
The other choice is to replace the pods with the Biketronics speaker brackets as shown here with the BT speakers. The brackets are not sold separately online but you can call and order them. Mention HDForum and get a 10% discount.
I installed hertz hcx165 in my pods, mounted on the outside like factory. They fit but were dam close to the inner so I added a couple washers to the bolts between the pod and inner. Lots of room then.

If they are that close now, when the speakers get cranked up the surround really starts moving it could easily hit the inner fairing or the grills. This is why I recommend mounting inside the pods.
Adding washers to move the pod could also cause problems alignment the rest of the pod mounting bolts.
