Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Helps put my mind as ease. I may get the MEX70bt. The one in my bike is a great unit Kenwood. But is not marine. So at some point it will crap out. I am guessing.
I have that Sony. It is NOT in ANYWAY shape or form a marine unit. It got rained on once and then wouldn't even power on. It dried out, then the buttons along the bottom of the face quit working. Today I washed my bike (I put gorilla tape over the opening after removing the face) wouldn't take a CD after ejecting. I could hear the ejection motor running continuously. I pulled the fuse for awhile. Let it sit and dry out. When I tried later it started working, out had garbled output, popping crackling, volume goes from nothing to max when turning it up from 0 (zero) to 1. I've used Sony for a while now. This is ridiculous. My non-marine Kenwood, when it got wet, would just display "protect" till it dried out and worked again. Just food for thought. If you ride and get caught in the rain, you better cover it up.

So many people get caught up in the term Marine. Marine isn't waterproof. Marine is just a Marine rated epoxy on the board to resist corrosion ( salt water and such). As stated always carry a splash cover.

Not only that. Anytime we're talking electricity and water Marine rated or whatever. There is always the potential of the unit failing in the field.

I know that marine does not mean waterproof. I never treated it as if it was waterproof. I try to be extremely careful when washing, and if caught in the rain. If I leave the bike parked and think there's going to be rain, I remove the face and cover the unit with gorilla tape. I forgot the face was on when parked at work one day and an unexpected rain hit. Then buttons quit working. My Kenwood non-marine has gotten soaked and still worked fine after drying out. Not the Sony. Just giving my experience so guys can take it into consideration when buying.

This is a general statement directed to all. Too many get so wrapped up that a marine unit will be safer, they limit their head unit choices, and potentially have a less versatile system. In the long run they are just as prone to water damage as a non marine. Just less prone to corrosion internally and UV.
