Default Sound deadening? Opinions changed?

I know when I first started coming here, the consensus was sound deadening was not worth the money or hassle on our bikes. Seems every newer build has Second Skin Damplifier installed. Was the reason for this because Dynamat was so heavy, and the Damplifier is lighter weight? I know Second Skin recommends the Overkill closed cell foam over top the Damplifier. Is anyone using both? I understand why It's used, just thought everyone felt it unnecessary in our open environment systems.

damplifier weighs 0.35lbs/ft2. dynamat xtreme weighs 0.45lb/ft2.

there really isn't a huge difference as we use so little on a bike. personally i prefer don's products.

overkill is just ccf and it's main job is to be a decoupler between the cld and mlv. for our applications i personally feel it is a waste of time and money.

Makes a huge difference inside the fairing. I have second skin damplifier and like it, however, I did scab out a few pieces throughout some fitment and need to replace. I found dynamat has hyperlite deadener that is a little lighter so giving it a try. Sound from inside fairing much more responsive and vibration minimized with damping material.

Worth every penny and the time spent to install it IMHO.

When I added Focal KRX2's under the Rushmore fairing it sounded like the outer fairing was vibrate right off the bike. Second Skin Damplifier took care of that. I think the vent in the Rushmore fairing makes it weaker and more susceptible to vibrations.

The 08 SG has the J&M Acoustic Pads which works very well. It's a lot thicker and takes up a lot of room thou.

Has anyone tried the sound deadening from KnuKonceptz? Seems reasonably priced.

Just a point of interest is anyone using sound deadening and still using the speaker pods and is there a point if your pods have been 'lightly' packed with polyfil?
I could understand its use in a fairing if you were using the Biketronics speaker brackets.
I'm not too sure if a fairing would go back on with some of the sound deadening material and speaker pods in place due to the thickness. Thoughts anyone?

The Second Skin Damplifier is thin and doesn't take up much room. Would the pods fit with it installed, probably. Would it improve sound quality, I doubt it.

Agree with BK. If u have the fairing pods I would not waste the energy or bucks on dyna or Second Skin type products. Throw a little Walmart pillow stuffing in there, drill about 5 or 6 holes in the pods (3/8 or 1/2") and ride on!!!!

The point of sound deadener is to reduce vibration, resonance in the fairing, and insulates the inner and mainly the outer fairing. By doing so your frequency response improves and you will achieve better clarity. Inside the pod isn't the place this will benefit. Using polyfill causes the speaker to have response as if the enclosure is bigger. Down side is using to much can have a more negative effect than none at all.
