Default Saddlebag Lids

I'm considering saddlebag lids for my '16 FLTRU. Where/What are the best lids to go with or look at? What about the speakers? I'm running a BT 4180 that I will probably use to power them. TIA.....

For my 2015 i went with the Harley lids from Boardtracker Online and then modified them for use with the V-Twin Audio 6x9 adaptors.

My personal experience with 6x9s has been the Moto's are a bass heavy speaker and with their low sensitivity they need quite a bit of power to get them to be loud. I have used Pioneer D6902's, A6994R, and now the Pro 6900. The Pioneer Pro 6900 have been my favorites so far. 150 watts and they scream. Very clear and pretty decent mid bass presence.

What does your fairing setup look like?

I bought these and really like them. They come with an adapter ring for a 6x9 speaker. As soon as they come back from the painter I'll post a pic.

I bought a set of 6x9 lids off ebay. I see them all the time from 75-110. I happen to get mine for the 75.00 and they are made by fairing factory. They go to paint on Saturday with my saddlebags as I have a road king classic that I got hard bags for. I am leaning towards a pair of infinity speakers. The interesting thing about them is that the tweeter can be positioned how you like so I can tilt them slightly forward towards me so I can hear the highs a little better. I am also going with the soundstream bluetooth amp so I don't have to have anything connected.

all in my cost for the lids, the speakers, the amp and all the wiring will be about 350.00.

Blue, there are some pretty damn good deals out there but if u r a rider first and parking lot guy second, IMHO really make damn sure the lids u choose point those speakers at the back of your head or ur gonna loose a bunch of the sound from a standard 6x9 well before 70 mph.

Have also seen some cool looking 7.7 and 8,8 lids but point towards 10 and 2 o'clock. WTF!!! Parking lot stuff perhaps?

Just a thought.

Not to hijack the question...But how much power to the 692's are you talking about? I'm running the 602's up front at 200 watts RMS per side and thinking of adding the 692's with another 200 watts RMS to each. Will they come to life like the fronts did?

I had any where from 180-250 watts going to them. They sounded the best to me at 225 watts. They handled the 250 fine, but the tweeters got shrill like at upper volume levels. I think they are a better inside the bag pointing at the wheel speaker personally.

I am sure some of the guys around here could get them to sound better than i could in the lids, but i preferred the Pioneer 5-way 6x9s i had at the time to the 692 in the lids. Now with the Pioneer Pros, i have lost some of the mid bass response i had with the 692s, but they are louder and clearer at all volume levels. This is all personal preference.

Ran about 210 to the Moto 692 and they did very well for me. As Matt mentioned, the bass response from the 692 is damn good inside the bags. I personally did not like them in the lids but the Pioneer TS6900 in lids and 692 inside the bags is a very good team of speaks.

+1 for the BadDad lids, good quality and they really went the extra mile on the adapters when my 6x9s would not fit with the standard J&M adapters. If you go with BD talk to John if you are going with higher end speakers like Arc, Hertz etc..

I added lids, and while they sound great in the shop, at speed I don't hear them much. They are behind you, and sound travels in waves. I've used this analogy here before, so my apologies to those that have heard it already, but picture sound waves coming from your speaker lids as a spray of water spraying in the direction the speakers are facing. If you're sitting still, the water will spray directly up and fall down on top of you. Now imagine that same stream at 70 mph. That water will land far behind you, same as sound waves will. I'm not trying to dissuade you, just pointing out that for all the expense involved, the gains are very minimal unless your bike is parked. Sound wise, you're better off with lowers. At least you can hear them at speed. Just an opinion from a guy that has both lowers and lids.
