I had it, great head unit and the display is tops!
I changed it out for a Kenwwod 998 because of two "flaws" (for me). First, the Sony only has a single HPF shared by both front and rear, the 998 has separate front and rear HPF's. Second, music search isn't easy if you have a lot of songs/albums to go through using the Sony, you have only next and last song options. The 998 can cycle next/last song, up to album level and search through various albums in that artist folder, and then up to artist level to search artist folders.
I MUCH prefer the display on the Sony, easy to see in any condition. The 998 I have issues when riding into the sun.
I was using a 7" Nexus Tablet and while very cool beans, it doesn't work well while riding.
Parked it's awesome but no go on riding.
I actually stitched up the fingers of a set of gloves with Conductive Thread and it worked great on my phone and the Nexus tablet but like I said, not so good while riding.
and yeah the Kenwood can use the Kenwood Music Control app for Android phones, I don't think they have an app for Apple but they do list "built-in iPod, iPhone, and iPad control" as a feature.
I have an 08 FTHT and tried several marine grade units with the biketronics unit. Worked and then had problems. Finally went to Medallion radio plug and play and works good. At the time only unit that was plug and play. If I were doing it now look at aquatic $299.00 or Jensen around $350.00 both are plug and play, have Bluetooth, aux
inputs and usb. All handle bar controls work, direct plug into factory harness.
