Default Polks versus Kappas

A few years ago the MM651's were the go-to budget build speakers. I was just getting into bike audio at the time and was ready to pull the trigger on them but then the tweeter stalk melt downs started popping up. I instead went with the Kappas, and was very happy with them, until they got destroyed by the inner fairing/mounting on outside of pods.

Since then I have always wondered how they sound. Then I see Crutchfield has them for $109. I have never seen them this cheap before so I just ordered a set. I just gotta try them!

So, I guess my question is.... Were/are the Kappas "next best" or are they "better" than the Polks. If you were guaranteed that the tweeter problem was gone would you go back/recommend them over the Kappas? Remember this is for small budget builds.

I know the big thing now is component systems, horns, pro audio, etc., but I think there are still guys out there that just want better than stock for low dollar.

I have the BT 7.1's and while they are loud and clear, they just seem to be missing depth. Depth I had when I was running the HCK 165's (really miss those never should of sold them) . Maybe I should try the Millie's.

Can you tell it's winter and I need to go for a ride????

I had both, I liked the sound of the Polks better. They both sounded good, but now I have the HCX165s and they sound better still!

yup....that's why the MM are on sale. I think the 7.1 are better than both the MM and the kappas.

I had the Kappas.... they were OK. Loud, but a bit shrill. The Polks are hands down better. I run them in the rear pods on my '15 Limited, 7.1s up front & 4180. The Polks are as loud as the 7.1s, and really pound out bass.

I get a lot of sound from behind.

just a caution- some vendors sell mm651...what shows up is the mm651-um.
these won;t fit in the batwing fairing- the speaker grill cannot be removed, the crossover is attached to the magnet and sticks out too far.
- i went through this with sonix on amazon and it took 12 emails to get my money back...

so, I have the kappas- my enjoyment of the stock radio has increased threefold with clear sound at 70 mph.

in terms of specs, the kappas will produce more sound per watt that the polks. unless you are buying an am this should be considered.
