2.) an "amplified" antenna will amplify not only radio waves ( good) but also "noise" ( bad) so you end up with the exact same ratio of music and noise.
antennas work best when upright, perpendicular to the ground.
with a "ground plane" which is the steel plate in the base of a tourpak, or the hood or trunk of a car.
Do you have a vertical antenna near the rear of the bike?
I use a rubber stubby from pepboys $12 and it gives quite good results- but a full size antenna on my tourpak works better
