Between riding Friday in the rain and a quick wash today, I could have planted fish in my aquariums. I mean bags.
Since everything is wet I can't tell where the leaking is. Two places I'm thinking is the wire loom where it goes through the grommet and the gasket that Hogtunes supplied.
I'll take some time and figure out how to best waterproof these lids.
As much rain as we get here in WA, if it can leak it will leak.
I would do it just like i use to check for leaks on houses. Start low with a garden hose and work your way up. Checking periodically along the way. In houses a leak in the roof, wall, door or Windows could show up at the top of foundation. If you started at the roof and water ran down, you still didn't know the culprit. Good luck with your task.
One thing I have noticed right off the bat is the gasket thickness. It is very "tall" compared to the oem gasket. Looking on my shelf I found replacement gaskets. These are oem so that's the first swap.
Next I'll figure out a way to get the speakers sealed just a little bit better. I might be able to glue in the waterproof speaker cloth to the lid on the topside without interfering with speaker movement.
As far as gaskets are concerned, the one on the left is oem and the other was aftermarket. Big difference. I think what was happening with the other one was instead of a squish, it was moving to the side. That enabled water to get inside.
Since I can't "wrap" the speaker with the cloth I sprayed 3M adhesive to the cloth and the top portion of the lid. Made it taught and should help keep water from the insides.
