Just finished my first audio install/upgrade on the bike and I just wanted to drop in here to thank those who suggested things and answered questions. Chris and BBoy thanks a million for your responses and time. This forum is invaluable and many contributed to answering my questions without knowing so thank you to everyone!
The goal was a $700 or less upgrade so that I could actually hear more than just the words and distorted mids that the factory system produced at speeds >50mph. Although budget and dealer stock constraints kept me from going with BBoy's all DD suggestion (BO harness kinda jumped the budget) I have to say i'm VERY happy with the sound coming from the system I pieced together. Here's what I ended up with and some pics (if they load) and where I got the components from:
Thanks guys. System is still being dialed in slowly but it's getting there. All the reviews on the Kappas are spot on and I understood that going in. They definitely don't like lower freqs, but I don't listen to a lot of bass heavy music. I also converted on the music on the iPod to a higher bit rate and that helps. Loudness is off the charts and is clear well into extra-legal speeds. Mids and highs are crisp and clear and actually the coax's are surprising me more than the components tbh. So far, so good!
I'm with these guys, nice work!!! Reminds me I have some loose ends to button up in my fairing. I hope to end up looking like yours, nice and neat.
