Adding Aux Input to 17 Street Glide
HD wants 40$ for the cable which is insane, i will be making my own for a fraction of that after i source the molex plug they are using.
Now in the install manual for that cable, it notes 3 modes that the radio can be flashed to:
"Have a Harley-Davidson dealer use the Digital Technician II service tool to update the "Audio Inputs" to the desired setting. "Audio Only" "Tone Detection Only" "Both Audio AND Tone Detection""
1. Audio Only
2. Tone Detection Only
3. Both Audio AND Tone Detection
Can someone please explain the difference between all these settings? I am trying to add this AUX input for my radar detector so it will interrupt whatever audio source is currently playing on the bike when my radar get a hit. It would also be nice to be able to use this as a selectable AUX input if i wanted to play music from a 3.5mm jack, but if that cant be done my primary goal here is for the radar to interrupt the radio/bluetooth currently playing.
My best guess is the following:
1. Audio Only - Radio must be set to AUX for sound to come out, will not interrupt current audio source playing.
2. Tone Detection Only - Will only interrupt your main audio source when it receives a signal from the AUX input. No ability to exclusively select the AUX input and play music, etc. from it.
3. Both Audio AND Tone Detection - A combination which somehow allows the AUX input to interrupt the main audio source when a signal is received, but also allows you to exclusively select AUX input to play music from. (how do you tell the radio which mode you want at any given time?)
I fail to see the difference between options 2 and 3 assuming my guesses about functionality are correct. If its in "Tone Detect Only" and i hook it up to my phone to play music, its going to be receiving a constant signal and override the default source. The only time i see this dropping out and reverting back to radio is if there are pauses between tracks or something like that where the line goes dead for a second.
Looking to get some clarification before i go to the dealer and ask them what i would like done to the bike.
Thanks!
