I have nothing but trouble with iTunes on a mac...I'm sick of it. Years ago, I used to use Roxio on a PC and loved it. So, what is the best music program for ripping from cd's to put on USB....and where is the best place to buy mp3's to dump to USB all so that they will play on my bike?

If you want to use a stick your options are kinda limited, at least if you want to do it above board. If you purchase music from itunes or amazon it will allow you to download those songs to a stick in a format most HU will recognize and play.
If you get a subscription service through apple music it will allow you to download some of the subscription music to a stick, but the file format is protected so most HUs won't play it. The only work around is to play the music through the app on your phone or an ipod. Note that this doesn't mean you have to stream/use data - you can download them to the device and then play with no data issues at all as often as you want. There's another thread out there that discusses this, and one of the things I found is that even if you have an ipod nano or ipod shuffle you can play the music through the ipod, but the Rushmore 6.5 HU won't recognize the file type. The ipod touch works fine because it plays the music through the app, not just from the file. As far as I know the amazon unlimited subscription service won't let you download any subscription songs to a stick.
I got really tired of Itunes losing a lot of my library that I added from cds and other sources. I switched to buying from mp3 sources like Amazon and I use Windows Media player to manage my library. I have over 30 years in IT and would never waste my money on an Apple computer (3×$ and less than 1/2 the computing power) but that's jmho. Media player has never lost a song yet.

Does Amazon have a huge selection that allows you to download MP3 files? I won't have to convert every single song?

I can't speak to the actual size of Amazon's library but I have never had a problem finding what I was looking for. The files are in mp3 format and also be converted to other formats after download. Most of the cds that I have purchased from Amazon come with an mp3 download as well. There are other options as well but I personally use Amazon for convenience.

Back when I pod first dropped, I had maybe 35gb of music then, and it wouldn't let me load to ipod without converting every file to mp4 or whatever the hell Apple uses, and nearly doubled my file space for music. The bastard went straight back to best buy and I bought a Zune. I build my own pc's every few years. This last build still strong at 4 years old but I built way more computer than I would have ever needed. Always have hated Apple. So answer to op post is if you have a mac, find a good music manager, may have to disable I tunes if you can, and download from Amazon music for good files. Buy all mine from Amazon and occasionally search the price as sometimes the song and cd are not much more sometimes for cd and digital download.
