So I was thinking about putting the kappas and the b52 in my new 17 SGS but I have been hearing good things about the polks.
Are they worth a 100 buck more than the kappas?
Will they mount outside the pods, Would be nice not to have to modify them.
Is the b52 still a good amp to run with these speakers?
Thanks guy's!
If Amazon would stop f'ing me over (4 deliveries in the last three days late...) I could let you know. I currently have waiting: a B52, a BT355, a power harness I just fabricated, the MM652's and the Kappas. If the hogtunes amp bracket ever arrives I'll get to installing.
I was originally going to try both speakers out, but I've read good things here about them and the fact that they are more weather resistant then the Infinity's is making me think I'm not going to bother and just install the Polks straight away.
At this point it's looking like Saturday is the install date. Hopefully.
You don't have to modify the fairing pods with the Kappas. You do have to mount them inside. Since the pods are out to begin with it's only a matter of a few torx screws. Haven't tried the Polks up front. Was seriously thinking about Polks in the rear pods as they will see more water if caught in the rain or washing.
I was liking the price point on the kappas but if the sound is improved for a 100 bucks I will go with the polks.
Still hoping someone has put them in the sg pods and will chime in.
Hope your install goes smooth!
Thanks !!!
While I was waiting for the amp bracket to arrive I hooked up the amp to a spare battery I have and tried out both speakers with an iphone source into the amp. A side by side, open air (no enclosure - terrible I know) comparison revealed the Polks had a better overall sound to me, though were the Kappas marine rated I would have saved the $100 and went with them. The difference was there, but not breathtaking. But with the audio edge and the water resistance the Polks are go. Hoping to start the install in about an hour.
Marine rated doesn't necessarily mean waterproof guys. Speakers mounted inside your fairing aren't going to see very much water at all unless you hold a hose to them when you're washing the bike.
Polks all day long, my opinion only. They have a much richer/full sound. Since I tried them out a little bit ago they are now my go to speaker in the tourpack

Relative to what amp you have and how's its set up. Having said that on one of my personal bikes they're in the rear and they more than keep up with my HATS in the fairing. Running 70-80 mph you will know that they are back there.
They just sound damn good. The vocal quality out of them is phenomenal.
