First, I'm not making any judgement or being disparaging, I'm genuinely curious. Really.
I completely see upgrading audio systems to give a better musical experience while riding, I too am in the process of doing an upgrade myself.
However I don't understand why some, for lack of a better phrase, go "hog" wild (see what I did there?) - filling their bags with speakers, subs and amps, etc. making them basically useless for carrying anything other then the components.
Is that for competition mostly? Or do people actually do that to daily riding bikes? And if so, for while riding, or to entertain an outdoor party, etc? And if the latter, how long can a gigawatt system run off a bagger battery?
I totally get wanting great sound - but I'm confused by the practicality of some mega systems I've seen on bikes.
5 months ago - I wouldn't mind a little more volume
4 months ago - this upgrade isn't good enough
3 months ago - this is better, I wonder if I added speakers in the lowers if it would sound good
2 months ago - I think I should upgrade to This and that
1 month ago - how can I go to the next level
Now - I want my bags filled with 8's
Its a natural progression that some of us just can't stop. I can't explain what it's for. Do I need a lot of speakers and multiple amps? Nope. Can I hear just my fairing setup going down the highway at 80? Yep. It's like there is a virus on this audio systems forum that is very easy to get infected with. That's the best way I can explain it.

Lol, when you put it that way, I get it.
I wonder if there's a way I can get a vaccine for this virus. I'm hoping my upgrade will end with fairing speakers and amp.

Juat trying to understand. And thanks!
Nature of the beast bro! Guys always want more. It's in our DNA. We can't help it. Same reason we put crager wheels on our 68 chevy SS many years ago. Did we need em? Hell no! Did we want em? Hell yeah! Why? Because they looked better than our Buds POS Impala!! Don't fight it man!! Practically is out the window!! You're gonna lose every time!! Basically MAN LAW BRO!! LOL!!

many, many folks are completely satisfied with an amp and 2 speakers, but if it werent for the guys on here that try every conceivable combination of stuff to try to reach perfection, we wouldnt have all their fantastic recommendations as to what amp works best with what style/ brand of speakers....
as far as a vaccine... its too late...your already here
You guys are funny as hell. I understand the upgrade bug, agree we all have it. I was more curious if some of the extreme systems were still for riding or were used for other purposes - like i said, to provide music at outdoor events, etc. and battery life. But I'm seeing it really is just for the rider/passenger. Excellent!
