Default Advice needed from the experts!

Just got back from Sturgis, with a little alcohol inspired courage I had a vendor install an amp and fairing speakers. They are the ds18's speakers and amp, overall I'm happy with the sound. Music was clear and could be heard at highway speeds all the way home with volume only turned about halfway up. He didn't have any speakers on hand that would fit in my saddlebag lids and told me that the boom speakers wouldn't last but a couple hours hooked up to that amp. So here is where my questions start, is it worth the hassle of hooking my current speakers up to the amp and running them until they go out or would it be a waste of time? If not, what are my options as far as drop in 5x7's that won't require much modification to fit and be water tight? I don't need an insane system just looking to complement what I already have. I'm trying to keep it as budget friendly as absolutely possible as the ol lady already ain't to happy that I dropped that much cash into at the rally. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions. I'd also like to hear some opinions on the ds18's.

I just purchased a set of Polk Audio MM572 (5x7). I haven't installed them yet, but the numbers look pretty good for those small speakers.
