I have a 2012 SG with completely stock audio. fairing only.
why can't you just buy a nice head unit (like an Alpine, Kenwood, Sony) & some decent speakers (like CS series Kickers) and run without an amp?
Would you not get enough volume or is it sound quality that is lacking...perhaps both?
Both. I'd say the best way for you to learn is do it. You'll be right back here to audio forum with a different question. Not that simple bro. An amp is a must have if you want to upgrade.
You just got replies from 2 of the very best in the in the Bagger audio world, hopefully that is good enough but if not, here's an idea. Next time you are in your car/truck or whatever vehicle you drive, when one of your favorite songs comes on, CRANK IT UP, to like 1/4 volume ...... That's what it will be like with no added power. Just a little input from 1 of the million guys who have tried it and were left wanting more. Do it right the first time.

hey Alex i am trying to reach you about setting up/ buying a audio system. Can you message me?
Xtremer....I am a perfect example of what the above guru's have described that its not that simple. Well it is in a way, but you wont be happy with simple upgrade/no amp. I bought a bike and as with anything else you want to upgrade it. I upgrade head unit, then I wanted it louder, then I upgraded the speakers, then I upgraded speakers and added saddle bag lid speakers and an amp, then I upgraded saddle bag lids from 4x6 to 6x9, and this still didn't satisfy my thirst for louder better quality sound when cruising around. Don't get me wrong, each addition does make a "Huge" difference, but if you want louder better quality, then upgrades are necessary......I learned a lot from this Audio section and talked with a lot of people and having the right matched components makes a world of difference. Let these guys help you with your decisions and most of them have been down this road helping a lot of people so you can do it right the first time within your budget/expectations....I learned the hard way, spent money in the wrong places, now Alex @ (Bagger Audio Labs) will be setting me free loud and clear by the weekend!!!!
