You will get more sound from the 6.5 than the other. I don't see how you get them inside pods to mount them either. I think everyone will say go with 6.5 over 5.25 all day
Understood! This is why I enjoy this forum and learn from the experts. Guess I thought that the 5.25's would be similar in size to the stock speakers in the pods.

I am far from an expert, but I have done an insane amount of reading and talking with several guys. 5.25 would be similar in size to stock speakers on 13 and down bikes. Still not sure how it would be possible to mount inside rear tour pack pods

You don't want ANY 5.25 speakers on your bike Lefty. 6.5 and up. 6.5's will fit all three holes.

So I'm pretty sure that I have my speakers sorted out now, so now it's on to the amp. As mentioned in my original post, I'm leaning toward the PN4.1000D as from what I've read, it seems to be the "budget" amp of choice. I'm a little concerned how I will be able to fit all the pieces in behind the fairing. Here's what I need to fit in there (with all the associated wiring & such)...
- stock CB module
- PN4.1000D amp: 10.25" x 4.75" x 1.50"
- Metra BT-HD01 (bluetooth interface): 8.8" x 5.8" x 3.5"
Any suggestions on how to do this...mounting brackets that might work? I know I can relocate the CB module below the stock HU. The Metra instructions actually show the BT interface unit to be installed on top of the stock HU in the CB location. If I do this, where to put the amp?
The Soundstream amp seems a bit on the "bigger" side at over 10" long. Should I be looking for a more compact amp? If so, what would be a comparable amp to the PN4.1000D but smaller?
I am building in a system right now and it sounds like we are in a very similar situation. After weeks and weeks of reading and research I have decided to go with the 4180 and 7.1s in the fairing and Hertz sv165.1s in the lowers and I I already purchased the mm652s from Amazon for $99 last week and have them sitting in the pods...... They will fit. As someone else stated you just have rotate them until they slide in. I too will be keeping my stock hk and sending it in this week to iron cross for pre amps and possibly Bluetooth??? Haven't decided if the $140 will be worth it as I already have a Bluetooth receiver I stick in the aux port and works fine just kinda fugly. Cb, weather band and fm reception was something I still use.... Also the biketronics come ready to install with everything you need.... Just for you to consider.
Good luck!

You won't get both the SS amp and the Metra interface in there together.
That's not what I wanted to hear Bates. Any suggestions?
With everything you're trying to cram in there it's gonna be tough. If you didn't have to have the CB, everything else could be solved with an aftermarket HU.

I understand that but do want to keep the HK HU as I do use the CB a fair bit (group rides) and quite like the AVC as well.
How about a smaller amp? The CV B54 (7.7" x 4.02" x 1.4"), RF TM400X4ad (8.3" x 4.25" x 1.6"), Hertz HCP4D (8.46" x 7.48" x 1.97"). Any of these better than the other?
