Hey guys. I have been doing my fair share of reading on this forum. I am looking into doing a budget system for my Glide. looking into a B52, 6.5" kappas and a new head unit. My question is on head units. What do you guys all suggest. I priced out a JVC KD-x35mbs with all the install stuff @ $167 as well as a Sony MEX m71 BT with the install stuff at $184.17. The head unit packages are from crutchfield. The JVC is new and the sony is scratch and dent. What's the general consensus on those 2 units. I am doing this on a budget. Shooting for less than $500. Amp , speakers and adapters are $242.76 on amazon. I just want a head unit that works well, BT connects easy and works well with hand controls. I don't need a CD and prefer marine grade or weather resistant. So please...give me your thoughts. Also, what amp wiring kit do you suggest? I am only doing fairing speakers as I do not have lowers or tour pack pods. Thanks!
Bula, those components should be a good bang for the buck system...a lot of guys on here running Sony HU's ...should get some feed back on what particular models they're using! I am using a Kenwood 998 which also is popular on here, has a built in signal processor for setting X-overs ect. Ck out Knukonceptz for wire, RCA's, and inline fuse holder!

Thanks Mike. That's my thought here is getting feedback on what everybody likes and what seems to work. Obviously looking at budget, but want functionality too. Any other feedback is appreciated.

I just got the Sony MEX-M70BT from Crutchfield over the M71BT because the preamp voltage was 5 volts vs 2 volts for theM71BT, which I thought was preferred by most. Plus it's on sale for $129.99 (New not scratch and dent), with the install kit (HB controls and dash kit) it was $184.97. I bought a motorcycle amp wiring kit on ebay for $29.99.
I have seen more guys running the Sony HUs on here at least from what I can tell. Maybe I will sway that way. I am not ready to pull the trigger yet on any of the components, but I will be shortly. Thanks so far for the feedback.
I am ordering all my equipment today! Gonna go with the SONY MEX70, a B52 amp, and the kappas. How are most of you guys mounting the amps on aftermarket HUs. I was looking at something like the 3M Dual lock tape or some kind of heavy duty Velcro. Let me know what you guys are using! Getting pretty stoked for this install as the factory setup has been garbage since I purchased the bike. Also, what is a good starting point for setting that B52 by ear. Would be nice to get it in the ballpark and tune by ear. But if needed ill break out a meter.
The 3M dual lock or Heavy Duty Velcro works fine. Badd Azz Bikes also makes a very nice amp mount that's only usable with aftermarket HU's. Very nice piece that's reasonably priced.
I use heavy duty Velcro on the amp to the top of the head unit. It has lasted me 4 years now without a hick-up. I have a sony HU, Rockford amp, and those same speakers. I am curious how well you like it!
