Default Challenging audio system.

Ok guys. I have a challenging audio system. I have a 1988 Ultra. I can only fit 4" speakers in the fairing. No way to get anything bigger in there without MAJOR reconstruction of the inner fairing. I have been running DS18 ELX SQ4.0 in the faring, and Polk DB651's in the lowers. Powered by a SS PN 4.520D amp, with a Kenwood KMR-M318BT head unit.

It sounds good to me but like the rest of you I've started chasing the unicorn. Unfortunately I feel that my unicorn is a little harder to find because of my limitations with fairing speaker size.

My wife says that I'll never have a stereo that she can hear with her full face helmet on. She has to wear a full face helmet ALL the time because of a nerve condition. I was given permission to do "whatever I wanted to make it so she could hear it". SO my question is what suggestions do you guys have? I know the best way is to get a newer sled that has more options but I like a challenge. My budget is $2500 tops. Don't mind spending money on good stuff but also realize that sometimes you are paying for a name.

Thanks Chad

Heres a thought. It will take major construction to be able to fit bigger speakers in that fairing. I am curious if getting a later model fairing (inner and outer) and fit it to your bike.

New inner fairing? Then roll with the remaining budget.

Just a thought.

I've thought about retro fitting a newer inner and outer fairing. My thought process is that's a lot of money to spend modifying a motorcycle just to spend money on a audio system. I'd rather spend the money on amps and speakers than modifying my bike. Or use the money as a down payment on a newer bike to put a system in. Can't have too many Harleys.

If I can only go so far with my system because of my limitations I'm ok with that. Just hoping to prove the wife wrong at least once.

Do the best you can in fairing, upgrade lowers, add lids and tour pack speakers. Match that with a good amp. Is that possible?

The fairing and lowers are possible.

Installing speakers in the lids requires cutting holes in lids or retrofitting 93 and newer bags and lids. Thats around 1k. Any bags and lids 92 and older are a different size and my battery is located behind the right bag. Meaning I need to relocate it also.

Speakers it theTP are possible but we don't ride with it. Wife is not a fan of it. Says it vibrates in the wrong spot. A lot to do with her nerve condition.

I've thought about a tone of ways to retrofit newer stuff on my bike but it's a lot of money.

She has a bluetooth headset in her helmet. She can listen to her phone but no what is playin through the bike.

Maybe a newer bike would make the ride more comfortable for your wife as well as open up the door for easier audio upgrades.
