I have my bike torn down as I just installed a Kenwood KMR-M322BT headset with a Power Akoustik RZ4-2000D amp and two POlk Audio MM652 spkrs.
Powered it up and it sounded pretty good. Set amp gain at about 5 oclock and had very little distortion. Listened to it a bit and then all of a sudden it sounded distorted. Shut everything down thinking that it was possibly as a result of the battery possibly getting low. Charged battery and it's still very distorted.
Checked spkrs with 9 volt batt as well as multi meter and both spkrs seem to test ok. 3.6 ohms and when 9v connected both base drivers move freely and well.
Why is it all of a sudden sounding crappy??
If you have your gains set at 5 o'clock then you've done something very wrong. Gains should be between 11-1 with 1 being the extreme end. Make sure amp is set to flat, crossover on HU set at 80, volume at 3/4 and have the bike running. Last but not least, if playing music from your phone, make certain the volume is turned up on the phone. And if the HU has a loudness feature, turn it off.
Thanks for your reply and I apologize. My Gain was set at about 11 oclock. I have no idea where I came up with the original posted position.
I will give your suggestions a try.!
RZ4-2000D amp has crossover selection switches.
80 Hz High pass, Full and 80 Hz Low pass. I have switch set at Full. Is this correct?
I have connected amp to HU with RCA,s
Trying to set up amp with multi meter.
Amp specs say 500W x2 with it connected bridged, at 4 ohms. (14.4V)
Doing the math I get a target Voltage of : 500x4=2000 with sq. root being 44.72V.
Is this correct ?
I checked it with a 100Hz. Tone from my phone connected direct to plug in jack. and HU set at 80 percent volume . Cant get close to this number???
Forget the test tone and multimeter settings. Set the amp by ear just the way I described it to you.
And you have no need to run those speakers bridged. Put them on their own channels. If you were running them bridged before now then that's likely gonna be your issue. Blown!!!!
