My first set of polks melted. I just assumed I had the tuning wrong. Maybe not.
I
Did you have anything in the bags? Mine got hot as hell only when I had jackets and rain gear in the bags close to the speakers. Mine got hot as hell but didn't burn anything. The voice coil cover melted off but the speakers still work.
Holy crap, I don't think they should melt under any circumstances.
I'm starting to rethink the Polks. From what I have seen though the Motos seem to be pretty expensive. Does anyone know what Spork charges for them?
If that doesn't seem like a good option I do have the highs covered with the ADs in the lowers and rear pods and the Motos in the fairing. Maybe one of the mid-bass models would be feasible.

then th DD vo's are about as good as it gets for solid mid bass. Just no highs with them.
As far as the wdx 6x9's go, I paid $260 for the ones I had and gave them to one of the members here. They sounded good going down the road but like the wdx 6.5's the highs were harsh sitting still.

one bag was pretty packed. Not a lot of air space. The other pretty empty. Both got equally warm. They were definitely warm enough to cause issues with the right thing in contact. Bags are not vented. Obviously they were no longer working, typical blown speaker sound with any volume applied.

I had 2 jackets in the bag that got so hot the it melted the coil cover. The other speaker is ok. In that bag was just some rain gear. I cant recommend these speakers any more.
