Is Rockford Fosgate The Best Stereo System Upgrade
Hey guys,
So I am starting my research for the dreaded stereo sound system upgrade. I have a 2018 SGS with the stock Boom Audio Stage 1 Front fairing 2 speaker set up ONLY. For NOW i am only looking to upgrade these two speakers in the front fairing with an amp. Next year I WILL add speaker lids so this needs to be a part of the discussion but is not happening at this time.
I am one of the ones who has a friend with a brand new 2018 Road Glide with Stage 2 Boom Audio Front and speaker lids and the thing sounds really good and he has not had any issues. I have only really looked at the Boom! Audio stage 2 updgrade or the Rockford Fosgate systems to this point. Im not interested in Kicker or J&M so are there any other systems I need to be looking at?
If money is no object what would be the dream setup?
If I am trying to keep it under 1k what would be the setup?
See the audio section about this. Tailwind, Ganicus and a few others, really know their stuff. I like the TM400x4AD amp. But there are much, much, much better speakers. My build is in my signature. Ive done multiple videos illustrating my system, under the same screen name. However, I am still but a novice compared to some of those guys.

Oh, and stay away from the Boom crap! It’s over priced and way under powered. 300 Watts, is the peak numbers. You want high RMS numbers. Rockford Fosgate TM series amps are very good. They are rated at 400 RMS. But they under rate their amps. Mine is on the low end at 532 Watts rms.
Soundz Customs. They use focal speakers. A good kit. Many other great choices, but RF is not the best by any means. Not bad, but much better to be found.
I bought the Rockford kit and added the tour pak speakers and bag lid kit also. It sounded really good but I ended up swapping out the fairing speakers for hertz HCX 165s Because I fried the tweeters on the fairing speakers. I also went with a Rockford DSR1 processor instead of the BT355 line levelers. After a lot of trial and error adjustments I think it sounds amazing for the money I have invested. If I was to trade my ultra in for a Street glide I would definitely put the rockford kit in.
I've done a ton of stereo upgrades on my past trucks and cars, and my go to brands are Focal for mids/tweets, JL Audio for bass (though JL audio also great for mids and tweets) and JL Audio amps.
Rockford Fosgate is mid-tier, so if price an issue (cheaper than JL), an option.
I'm running the RF kit with Hertz EXC 690.5s in the rear. I'm 100% satisfied. I got my bike flashed at an RF authorized dealer instead of using a line-leveler. Been there done that, waste of time. Then I adjusted my amp according to the sticky. To me, after the flash, the adjusting was key.
Also just because the RF dealer is on the list - it doesn't mean they know what they are doing. I went to a guy that installs these systems all week so I knew he knew how to do the flash correctly. The 1st guy I went to I told him to stop because it was evident he didn't know what he was doing.

thanks for the help.
So is the rf set up the best......no. The "kit" is not necessary as you get stuff with the kit that you wont need. The speakers are decent up front and damn good 6x9's in the rear if tuned properly. The tm400x4ad is a damn good amp that is underrated and easy to tune. If you are looking for a 4 channel only setup then that amp will be all you need. Other amp that are damn good are the jl series, focal sport and a stinger. Speakers are personal choice as people listen to different types of music and like things sounding different than others. Now if adding rears then the rf rear kit is damn good but as you say, that is down the road and for another discussion.

I would disagree with that. I have been into car stereo for over 20 years. I was hesitant at first to use the Fosgate amp because in the past I would say they have made some inferior products. But I ended up getting a smokin deal on the kit so I jumped at it and I have to say that amp is very impressive. I also have a Jeep full of JL Audio stuff and it does sound great but I would put that Fosgate amp up against it any day and Id bet that you would be impressed. So normally I would agree that fosgate is mid level but that isnt the case with this amp.
