Harman Kardon Radio Update for 2013 and older models
After some research, trial, and error I thought I'd provide a bit of advice to help the next rider update their Harman Karden stereo. There are many posts about this topic but all of the posts I discovered had broken links and dated information. Nearly all of the problems riders faced were related to the burning of the CD, which is is very finicky. I hope this helps.
Step 1. Visit the HD website, click on PDF instruction, and follow the instructions to determine if you even need to update. If you need to update, follow the instructions on downloading the software update. The webiste is:

Step 2. Unzip or move the two update files to your desktop.
Step 3. Download Nero 9. This is critical, as most riders (including me) tried to use Windows or other software to burn their update CD and failed. Nero 9 is free here:

Step 4. Open Nero 9 and select the "Add" button and select the two files from your desktop. Click the hammer button and select "minimum" under burn speed setting. Check the box to verify the data after the burn. Click "Burn."
Step 5. Follow the directions on the HD website noted above to use the disk you just created. Be patient while the radio updates...it takes a while and there are times you'll think it's stuck. It's not...it's just a slow process.
