Doesn't make me do somersaults, or jump for joy. LOL
I haven't actually sat down to read the manual either yet but unless the hand controls do more, I won't be impressed.
As of right now, all they do is volume and skip songs. No way to use them to scroll through menus etc.
Like I said, haven't read through all the instructions.
Hopefully I can modify the switches to work more options.

I haven't messed thru mine either but had the same results with the controls. Sound quality is good, but normally a flashed HU is pretty good SQ as well.

I don't care about the thumb controls as much as the SQ from the HU itself. Nighjt and day difference from the Boom system. You can set it up to change music source too.

I'm with u brother!!! I'm still resisting this move for a few reasons but another one is the Boom HU music library functionality. Tuff to beat.
And you loose oil temp and air temp etc plus loss of hand control features so kinda sucks. Is it work it?
if you are looking for the best possible sound quality then yes. The majority of the installs i do I retain the stock HU mostly for the water proof feature and living in South Florida.

Good honest feedback!! Thx!!!

Yes it is tuff to beat the boom library. I had to put my music in different folders as the sony can recognize 250 files including folders but each folder can also have 250 files in it.

It really is a tuff call for me brother. As Haze mentioned, the Sony SQ is phenomenal. All my buds show and tell exactly that.
The water proof is huge for me as well.
In order to make this less about my personal preferences, are the Sony HU library tunes / music files accessible via the thumb controls?
They are not accessible T from the Scoshe instructions. It's very limited since it's more designed for steering wheel controls than handlebars.
These Sonys are going to make you touch the screen to manuever the menus, folders and files.
As far as water proofing, there is a guy on facebook who sells 2 different covers for these. I have the hinged one and glad I went that route if I keep this.
Then at least I can open the cover to touch the screen while I'm hauling through the twisties at 80. LOL
I've ordered the Sony just yesturday for a couple reasons, the stock HU GPS is slow and dated for turn directions, ("take the next right")? SQ sucks on stock HU. My hands are small, and the thumb controls are difficult for me to maneuver, usually I hit the wrong way and have to start over again from were the menu took me, so I just use the touch screen most of the time except for volume and next track, for some reason I find it much easier. Sony says it has one year warranty, and will replace if water intrusion happens. I have yet to find a thread that someone ruined the Sony because of water intrusion? If the sun is directly on my stock HU I can't see it, so I can't imagine the the Sony could be any worse. Air temp is only a bonus and I don't really care, I only look at that when I'm sweating and wonder if the heat from by bike is worse than ambient air. I will miss the oil pressure, but not really either, I almost never look at that since I don't have a mounted gauge on the dash anymore, and if it does bother me, I'll add a gauge. My tunes are in my phone, so I would assume they are easy to access? I read one thread that I'm trying to find again, someone said turn on the extras or add-on or something before pulling out the stock HU, and the oil and temp might work?
I'll give my 2cents worth with the Sony next week when I get it installed.
