In a situation where your amp (running 4 channels, 2 separate pairs of speakers) is receiving a single input from head unit, front or rear pre-amp outputs on head unit,and the 2 pair of speakers you are running require different cut-off points thru HPF, then you need to use the hpf on the amp.
this usually occurs when multiple amps are used and the front or rear signals from head unit are split to feed 4 channel input of amp.
