I need your knowledge about my purchase plan to upgrade my audio. Owner of a RGS 2017, with a Boom audio
HU, a RF TM400xad4, RF DS1, TMS65 speaker in the fairing and TMS69 in the lid (not installed yet), I want to swap the the TMS65 for Hertz MLK 165.3 or MLK 1650.3. Did you think the cost difference worth it when on the highway at 70mph? Will the speakers fit in the pod and the crossovers in the fairing? The DS1 is attached under the amplifier.

Lots of options out there brother. Why are u locked in on these 2 Hertz models? I'm a huge fan of Hertz, just curious if ur just following a lead or if u have heard each model?
I’ve personally compared the HERTZ HCX 165 the Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3 and the Hertz Mille Pro MPK 165P.3’s. All great speakers but in my opinion the MPK 165P.3’s stand out. I’ve run the MPK 165P.3 with a Fosgate T400xa4d (125 w per channel) and Fosgate TMS69’s in the lids. I think this is a great combination for my taste in music, Dire Straights, AC/DC and some Eminem. This combination easily overcomes the sound of the wind rushing past my ears and the sound of my pipes at 80 plus MPH at 1/4 volume. I’ve never compared the MPK 165P.3’s with the MPK 1650.3’s because I would never spend that kind of money for the later on a motorcycle with it’s attack on your sound system as soon as you start your motor, if you get what I’m saying. On top of it the MPK 165P.3’s and the MPK 1650.3’s share the same woofer. Unless Hertz’s Mille Pro manual has a misprint. Just my two cents. I hope it helps.
Thank you for jumping in the thread. I really appreciate it. Most of the time, I listen jazz, blues, and rock from the 70’s and 80’s. But I did not listen heavy metal. My ears are sensitive to high frequency, so I don’t want to have something harsh. This is why I bought the DSR1, it allows me to tailor the sound to my taste. To give you an idea, my home system is a Cary one (V12, SLP98) which is a lamp system. The first step is to replace the TMS65 and installing the TMS69 for my wife. This summer, I will put the TMS65 in the lower fairing. For that, I will buy another amp. Which one? I don’t know yet. But I will install it under the tourpack and find a way to keep it dry. This amp will drive the TMS69 and the RF amp will drive both front speakers set. I have a Madstad screen, so I think the RF give me enough power because I don’t have any turbulence, just a small flow of air with not much noise from the wind. Also, I travel a lot, especially in your country (great scenic road and great people), therefore, I have to do some hiway at 70mph to reach the destination to explore. Now, the reason for the Hertz is because they have good reviews and I found a site with good price in Canada. Buying in the US is expensive for me because of the exchange rate.
Even if I have a preference for Hertz, I am open to any suggestion. Maybe I can find a dealer here in Canada for these suggestions. But I will liked to have your advice first for the Hertz speakers.

Thank you D. That is a great advice. From my last post, I think that I describe very well what I am looking for. By the way, the last sentence is a “left over”. So forget it.
My current configuration is similar to what you’re describing, Fosgate - Hertz speaker combination. Twinn Fosgate T400xa4d’s. One under the hood and one in the trunk. (FYI, Fosgate doesn’t recommend mounting amplifiers under the tour pack)

D, that is a real nice installation. I would like to install the amp in the tourpack but since me and my wife like to travel a lot, she don’t want to loose space. That was hard for her to accept speakers in the lid, so, I don’t want to tell her that she will lose some space in the tour pack. I think with a well design enclosure, It will be ok under the tourpack. Thank you for your information, that tell me this strategy is not a bad one. Having the best possible SQ from the fairing support by speakers in the lower fairing and the lids one (even if at the highway speed, I will probably not ear from the lids). I think it is possible to do that with the help of the DSR1. Of course, the remaining question is will I ear a significantly difference in SQ, let’s say under 70mph, with the MLK 1650.3 vs the MLK 165.3 or the MPK 165P3.
For one thing. Take it from a guy who has been married over 40 years. There is never enough room on your bike for all your wife’s crap, lol.
Once you add a powerful rear speaker system to your bike. Your front to rear thumb fader becomes an important feature. In my experience anyway, the ability to adjust the fade on the fly is golden. I can actually bring my rears up so much they sound like the sound is coming from the front of my bike. So at highway speeds I get an envelope of sound.
D, 38 years with my wife and 38 years of mc trip with her. You are so right bro, never enough space! If, with your set-up, you have enough power to ear the lids speaker, that is great. It mean that I will ear it as well.
Since the ML series have massive crossovers is there a chance that u could start with purchasing just the ML woofer ie ML165 or 1650? Then from there get some solid tweeters to pair them with. Might save u a ton of cash and space.
This might make the ML 165.3 or ML 1650 much more cost effective.
