Default Please Help - Loud Thump

Hello All,

Hoping I can get some troubleshooting help. Head unit powers up fine. When I turn it to "Tuner", I get a loud "thump" sound through the speakers and the unit shuts down for a moment. Then, it comes back on but still no sound through the speakers. Also, not getting any sound through USB, CD, Bluetooth, etc...

Sorry Guys, bought bike with system already installed. I am definitely a "noob" when it comes to the audio. This is what I have been able to see so far:

Head Unit: Sony MEX-M70BT
AMP: JL Audio XD400/4v2
Front Fairing - Focal PS 165FX w/Focal 12-18dB/oct. crossover for each speaker
Lower Fairing - Audio Dynamics ADCX62
Bags - Qty. 2 Audio Dynamics ADCX692 in each bag

First, how do you have it wired? Using rca's from HU to amp? Remote wire from HU to amp remote?

Yes, RCA's to amp. System was working fine. Went through a rain storm and now nothing. All other functions on head unit work (menu, clock settings, eq settings, etc...).

Sorry, very new to this stuff. Bike was purchased with system already installed. Amp is in front fairing. How to tell if it is powering up?

Ok that tells me it is wired right as I didn't know if it was a new install or not. Does it work if you try to use a usb device with tunes on it? I ask as im trying to determine if the HU is bad or the amp.

Just went and tried it. USB has no sound and it also does not "play". It just goes to the track but you dont see the track playing or hear anything.

That tells me the hu is bad then. Have you listened to tunes off that usb before without any problems?

The other thing you can try is to hook a speaker directly from the hu output. Grey is the rt + and grey/black is the rt -. See if directly wiring a speaker from the HU will get you sound. If not the HU is bad.

Yes, the USB is what I typically listen to. Thanks for your help. Any recommendations on a new HU given the setup that I have?
