Unhappy So I Went to Local H-D Dealer for Flash....

I just got back from my local Harley dealer trying to get my 6.5 GT Boom head unit flashed. I spoke with the service writer before I went and was told flash was no problem. My plan was to get the radio flash done before I install the new speakers and amp, adding lower speakers.
The actual service tech told me that the HD Digital Tech software would recognize that there were no rear speakers connected to the rear outputs and not allow them to activate the rears by changing the flash.
They did tell me however that I could install my new stuff, even though it isn't HD Boom products and bring it back and they would give it a try and see if it would let them do a flash.
I think I have another set of 2 ohm HD speakers for stage 1 that I could go ahead and install in the lowers without an amp, just connected to the rear outputs of the head unit and let them do the flash, then take those out and install the good stuff. Just NOT SURE which way to proceed...
Any and all suggestions are welcomed!!!
Thanks

I did mine about a year and a half ago with no issues before I did any of my audio. They should be able to do the 4 speakers no amp flash so you can use the rear channels without any issues. Do you have another HD dealer in the area that you can try?

I could be wrong, but if I had to guess, the tech was referring to flashing for a Boom 2 upgrade. With Boom 2 upgrade the amp and speakers had to be present to flash.

The flash you want is the STOCK Ultra flash, 4 speaker/0amp.
I'd make sure he understands that, if he tells you the same story, ask him to try it anyway. It works without the rears hooked up. If he can't/won't, find a different dealer.

I had mine in for clutch recall and the flash on Friday 3-22-2019. I received the BT recommended bin file, stock ultra 0 amps. Stock H-D head unit and speakers in a SG. At zero cost. I asked them for a look and just an FYI the run switch must be in the off position to access the diagnostic screen.

I have flashed the headunits on the Rushmores usinging technoresearch software before and after any other equipment was installed and have never had an issue with the flash not working. So I dont know if it is the HD SOFTWARE or the mothership causing the issues with the flashing

Thanks for all the replies.

Here's what I decided to do.
I contacted Cindy at Biketronics, since I had purchased their LL's and they told me what flash to ask for. Cindy told me that Mike had developed a new tool to flash the Boom units without going to a dealer. I will send them the Serial #, software version of head unit and they send me the flash tool. I flash bike and send tool back or can keep it, but it is bike specific so I couldn't use it on another bike. That being the case, I will send it back. There is a $200 deposit to have it sent to me, then once I return it I will get a $135 credit back for a final cost of $65 for the flash. Sounds like a No Brainer, as the local HD dealer didn't really make me feel like they were on top of flashing radio's and their labor rate was $90 per hour.
Should have the tool in a few days I hope and will post results.
This could be an easy solution to an annoying problem for everyone!! We'll See.

Buddy, please keep us posted. Would love to know how this turns out.

For anyone else who has flashed w/aftermarket................. Would this potentially invalidate the warranty on the stock radio if it took a crap before the mfgs. warranty had expired? I can just see my luck, flash aftermarket and then have my head unit bite the dust before the warranty expired.

Is this a flash that mike has come up with or is it the same you get at a dealer?
