The new Sony MEX M71BT Radio, that I installed when I upgraded My Audio System, recently has given me a lot of trouble.
While riding, it constantly changes functions and the display changes colors.
When I shut the radio off for an extended period then turn it back on it returns to DEMO Mode and all the presets are lost.
I have contacted the Vendor and they have already sent me a Return & Exchange Form.
I really like the Sony MEX M71BT but don't want to go through the same hassle all over again.
I was thinking of the Sony MEX M100BT.
Any suggestions in regards to Head Units is great appreciated.
It should be noted that I had the Alpine CDE149BT but had problems with that one too.
Thanks.
Mike
It sounds like a ground problem or an intermitted power loss. I would double & triple check all power wiring even the battery terminals for something loose.

Thanks TG I thought the same thing.
I thought it was a problem of the Voltage dropping below 12 V so I hooked up my Battery Tender and leave it on all the time.
The issue still occurred even with the Voltage at 12 or better.
The Vendor is willing to take the unit back and either replace or exchange.

If you had the same problem with the Alpine then I would really look into the wiring as it has to be interrupted somewhere and it doesn't take much to reset a HU. Turn it on and wiggle the hell out of every wire you can find.

TG, I already reset the Sony but that didn't help either.
I think the problem I had with the Alpine was it was very under-powered with the Hawg Wired Amp I was using.
I am thinking of removing the Sony and trying the Alpine to see how it plays with the SounDigtal Amps I am running now.
Mike
Hechk yes try the alpine before buying anything. I have never had a problem with a sony HU of any kind until my detail guy got mine wet. lol.
Thanks again TG!
This is the second Sony I had on my RG Custom and really like them.
When I redid my Audio System I installed all new wiring and I soldered all the connections and used wire ferrules on the ends going into the amps and such so I am sure all is well there.
I'm going to give the Alpine another try and see what happens.
Mike
Ive been running that HU for a few years. My hand control module has gone out twice and has caused HU to do all sorts did weird shix.
cshocker, I'm running the Hawg Wired HUA360 Module on mine.
When I first installed the MEX M71BT the original HUA360 didn't work. I did everything as suggested by HW and it was determined that the Unit went south.
I wasn't too concerned as that Unit was over 5 years old. So I just ordered a new one and once I installed it everything went back to normal as far as hand controls are concerned.
For the life of me I can't figure why the HU returns to DEMO Mode and looses All Presets after it is shut down for a while.
The Vendor has been very helpful so I think I am going to return this HU for The Sony MEX M100BT.
In the mean time I will run my Alpine CDE HD149BT and see how that works.
Mike
Mike,
I have the same Sony HU and it works flawless for me so maybe you just got a bad one. Also I believe the biggest difference in the MEX-M71 and MEX-M100 is the size of the built in amp.
