Default Hogtunes lids installation

Recently there was a thread about Hogtunes lids and the fact that they break when installing non HT speakers. My experience has been that this happens because the screws included in the kit to mount the speaker are too short. They don't engage deep enough to hold everything together. I installed Polk MM692s in my wife's HT lids the flange on these is rather thick. The result was that after a short ride the speakers were laying in the bottom of the bag and missing one grill. After studying the situation I decided to buy longer screws, but the ones in the kit don't look like an average screw. After some research and measurements I ended up with the following. I hope this helps someone as it would have been useful information to me.

I wonder if it is a difference in manufacturing runs. I have had both Rockford Fosgate and Polks in my HogTunes lids and haven't had any trouble at all.

Maybe it's the difference in '14+ bags?

I don’t think so, I have a 15 with those lids. I’ve had Fosgate, Polks and two different HAT 6x9’s in them with no problems.
Only issue I had with them is I had to epoxy the tabs back on that hold latch mechanism.
