They certainly don't play as loud. They compliment each other quite well. That said, in your RG, with the speakers a bit further away, I'd try the G2's. My .02
From that description it sounds like it would be better to have the 601cx in the fairing and the G2 in the lowers since they are louder.

That's why I've still got mine installed

After hearing the PA601cx setup I was certainly tempted, but I'll give up some SQ for volume at speed. And, the great thing about the G2s is once you start pumping juice to them you can get them to thump a little bit...... Not bad for a 6.5" coax anyway.

I have indeed pondered that to see/hear what they would sound like. I thought I read here somewhere here that the magnets of the G2 are a bit too big for the lowers ? At some point, I will likely give it a shot to see. At 75mph, the G2's can be heard quite well tho...

Wevspot is kind of the Sharknose subject matter expert around here it seems. I think his thoughts on the fairing speaks being farther away from the rider necessitating louder speakers makes sense. I would definitely listen to his advice.

Here is a picture of the modification needed to get the MMats into the fairing of a Rushmore Road Glide. I would assume Wev has a similar cut in his for the G2s.

On on the subject of what fits in the lowers, I have wet heads so mine do not count but I did test fit the MMats in the speaker pods of my wife’s Rushmore lowers and they fell right in with no modifications. I can not vouch for the G2s in the lowers.

I'm guessing that it's a grill assembly that you wouldn't need.

That's correct. And then I covered the exposed area with Dynamat just to seal it off from the elements.

Awe, thanks Marshal I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I do have 6 RG installs under my belt now. It's a combination of distance from the rider and design of the fairing. On a RG fairing there are side vents on either side of the dual headlamp. When you're at speed you have an air stream coming in from each side vent, If you don't have lowers, there's also an air stream coming up from under the front of the tank (between inner fairing and tank) and then the speakers are about twice as far away as on a bat wing. When you throw all those together you get the common "I just bought a new Road Glide and the audio sucks, I can't hear it when the bike is moving".

That's why I recommend that folks dealing with 2-speaker Rushmore RG sleds target an AMP that can cleanly deliver at least 150W per channel and a pair of speakers that can handle that power for the front stage. If you can get up into the 175W to 225W per channel even better. Last but not least the higher sensitivity rating of the speaker the better. I wouldn't consider any speaker with a sensitivity rating lower than 91-92dB for a Road Glide install.

Would it be possible to warm up the pod with a heat gun and shape it around the magnet?
