Yes, that’s what I did on mine. Cutting it is no doubt faster and easier.

Agreed. Whatever HD makes those pods out of is some pretty tough stuff. I'm guessing it has to be since they are probably part of the structural integrity of the entire fairing assembly.

Yah I have seen it done but all I heard was that it was a very long and difficult process. Cutting the hole and covering with sound deadening has worked out well for many of us Rushmore Road Glide peoples.

That is correct. I recently talked to
them on the phone when ordering. Those are generic speaker grills and not necessary for fairing mounting.

Just word of caution on heating the pod up. i had 2 buddies who wanted to give it a shot even tho i warned them and heated up pod to much and warped it to the point the front fairing didn't fit back on properly. In the end I had to help them fix it and we cut the hole. Be careful, it doesn't take much to shape them. Cutting hole and patch of dynomat is a-lot easier and safer in my humble opinion.
