Right now, I have my PRV 8MB500v2s in my lids, getting about 220 watts each. My tune is coming along, but to balance it out, I have to turn down the front stage to -6db on my dsr1.
Here is my question....with appropriate tune, which gives better volume and sound quality between these options:
1. Current PRVs @220 watts each....adding lid horns
2. Mmats 801 cc @ 150 watts each
3. Db drive Wdx8 @ 150 watts each
4. GZ yellows @ 150 watts each with lid horns
I feel like I need some more highs from the rear, and that is the point for this question, but I dont want to lose sound quality or volume.
I'd agree with sir Bates. If you already like the volume and quality, then just add horns. You're not comparing apples to apples. Full range/coax 8" are different than an 8" mid driver (PRV). They each have their own benefits and downfalls and areas to play in. Oh, and then there's the whole "what your ears like" that plays into it.
Or hit up T and try out those DB's to see if they can produce what your looking for.
I'm gonna try to get some quick disconnect speaker wires to run into the bags and put the horns in. It makes me nervous, cutting my lids, but it needs to be done. The PRVs sound good to me, it's just missing the highs and the lower midbass range...which you would expect from that speaker. The horns should add the highs, and hopefully I have enough air space to add some lower woofers in the bags down the road.

Right on brother. I have offered this up a couple times. If u want to just drop a full range 8 in the lids just to hear what freqs u might be missing I'm all for helping out and letting guys try shix.
U pay for the ride and if I smell smoke on them when I get them back, u own them.
Hell, I have some 880s sitting on the shelf as well.

I wish I could fit 880s. I already have the horns laying around, and an extra channel on my 250.2, so it seems like a no brainer. Plus, the horns will look cool.
