I have to agree. They play a great full range of sound, very little tuning if at all, can't get anymore water resistant.
Yes there are less expensive speakers that will play lower or better mids, but I really don't think you can beat the OVERALL build of these speakers for your every day rider.
Only bad things are the price and availability of lids for them.
Which lids are you guys using? Have a set I bought off ebay. They fit ok, but the lids have a poor sealing surface, and no real seal surface area in around the speaker area to mount seals to. Have a couple ideas to try to get the seals to work better on these ones, but most likely going to order up a new set of better quality ones.

I'm using the Voodoo lids and they are damn nice. Since then Kody has switched fabricators and had some issues with the first batch he has produced but am told he has addressed it. My bud just got a set and is picking them up from Voidoo at the LS Rally and I will let u know how they look and fit.
Not cheap lids but are very high quality material and combined with the 880s ur pretty much done ever looking for a rider lid speaker. One and done!!!
If u can make the eBay ones work the good on you. Maybe post up a pic of what ur working with and the brothers here might be able to offer suggestions.

Out of town working for at least another week, but will definitely post up a picture of the issue, so others know what to watch for. I probably could have contacted the seller and sent them back, but by the time I noticed the flaw, I had already had them hydro dipped. So I just installed them anyways and headed to Sturgis.

I'm using Voodoo, but they are 13' and down, which are a little easier to install. I bought mine used and they bolted right up to my bags.
These are a set of knockoff eBay lids I bought a few months back for my JL 880's. The issue is there wasn't much of a ridge area, and in some areas the ridge area that the seal is supposed to attach to is non existent. Unfortunately I never noticed the flaw until after I had already hydro dipped them. Obviously the factory seal didn't work very well, as it had no place to mount to. I installed them anyways for my trip to Sturgis, but I'll be replacing these over the winter and maybe modifying these for my Softail. So if you are looking at any Speaker lids off eBay, watch for any that have the same flaw as mine.
Thanks for the heads up on your eBay lid experience. Shame that sealing is an issue because the hydro dip looked great. My experience with Speed By Design JL7.7 lids was fair. Some finish work was required, and tough to paint, but they were a solid product and held up well.
Maybe you could find a different type of seal / weather stripping at a Lowes or Home Depot?

I have looked at a few other eBay lids, and they all seem to have that seal area. The other flaw, is there was nowhere to mount the lid strap to hold the lid when opened with this set. That doesn't seem to be an issue with other lids I've seen since.
