First off let me start by saying I blame you Tailwind! LOL.
It's time to add some sound to the back of my sled. I've been going back and forth on 6x9/7x10's in the lids but I think I'm coming around to 8's in Advan Black Lids, ( I like the idea of 2 8's in a TP but don't want to go through the hassle and expense of having someone color match it), besides I already have the Advan Black side covers and bags so it makes sense.
Losing bag space is not an option so anything in the bags is out. I'm really looking to get that full sound with as much mid/bass as I can get out of lids.
Now my current set up is a pair of MMats 601cx's in the fairing mated to a Diamond Micro 2v2 via a Sony 5000, no DSP and I really like this set up so looking for 8's and probably horns that will stand up to the occasional rain storm (I'm a very fair weather rider but hey it happens) and pair well with my current set up. I have a TX48 sitting on the bench in my garage just waiting to be used.
Do I go the MMats PA801 route? Diamond weatherproof HXM8's? Via reading a bunch of threads doing a search I ran across some mention of Rockville RM84's that sounded intriguing and when I looked them up at $34 they are even more intriguing!
What horns should I be thinking about, and how should I approach powering everything using the Diamond, and the Massive TX48(I'll plan on adding a DSP as well?
Use the Massive to run 6.5's and 8's. Diamond for horns (if you don't go with a full range 8"). So if you go with a full range, you could get by with 1 amp. But then you're also limited on options for full range 8's (Mmats, DB drive, Diamonds).
If you want to run horns and second amp, there are a lot of 8" mid bass/mid range options (PRV, Rockville, GZ, Hertz, Beyma, etc). But you may run into a power problem because some of those don't kick in till over 200 watts.
Take your time and plan it out accordingly. All depends on what your looking for.
FYI: the Mmats 801 px are a great sounding full range speaker that doesn't require a lot of power and marine grade. And also, plan on spending some money on grills. Don't go all the way with adding 8" lids and get some cheap *** grills.
There are several mid bass speakers for 8 lids. The problem is that many of them dont really play as low as we would like. Determine budget, goals and available power and go from there.
